Question

I am only 14 years old, but I have a Roman nose and I hate it. When would I be able to change it and would it inprove my appearance/confidence?

Answer

I think in the UK most surgeons feel that for cosmetic rhinoplasty you should wait until about the age of 18 are, or later.

Whilst it may improve appearance, the issues related to confidence are more complex, and I think you should discuss your concerns with your family and maybe also with a psychologist.

A good assessment of the context, and therefore projection of the value of the surgery for yourself is well worth the effort, because ultimately, exactly as your question portrays it, it is your peace of mind and confidence that are targeted by the surgery; the change in shape is only the vehicle.

When evaluating the effect of changes in the shape of the nose on a computer image, you can appreciate better whether you relate to the new appearance, and gain more insight into the possible emotional effect of the transformation. This allows you to establish with your surgeon a plan for treatment that is more likely to suit you.
