Question

I'm 17 and feel very unhappy with my nose, I feel that a smaller one would look better.

I have fat cheeks (which hopefully will go down once I get a bit older) and my nose is very thin at the top and has a large round tip at the bottom and seems quite long in profile.

What would you recommend is the best type of procedure? What are the specific risks involved? Also, as I am only 17 I would probably be having the surgery when I am 18-21 so is there anything that would change in my face or the surgery required by then that I would need to know about?

Answer

The most important consideration is that at the end of surgery you should feel happy with the result.

In this context, accurate planning is very relevant, and I would suggest the 3-D imaging and simulation to help you appreciate the degree of change that is likely to make you feel comfortable with the facial balance.

In terms of the the risks related to rhinoplasty surgery, you can find information in the rhinoplasty section of this website under Risks of Rhinoplasty.

In most instances, for this type of change I would favor the open tip rhinoplasty approach as I find it more accurate when reshaping the tip of the nose.
