I would like to get a lower blepharoplasty.

Your questions answered by our surgeon, Lucian Ion, FRCS(Plast)

Question

I would like to get a lower blepharoplasty done but I am very concerned as I have heard there is a chance your lower eye can droop after this operation.

What are the chances of this happening?

Answer

Lower eyelid malposition following lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a well-understood risk, but not a major one.

To a great extent, the risk related to such post operative problem depends on some of the characteristics of the lower eyelid, position of the globe and support from the bone in the lower rim of the orbit. These aspects can be appreciated better during a consultation.

Currently, blepharoplasty surgery incorporates several aspects in its design, targeting specifically enhanced support to the lower eyelid. As far as my approach is concerned, I tend to favour the techniques that incorporate an element of cheek lift as additional support and contouring for the lower eyelid and the lid-cheek junction.
