Questions & Answers The Surgical Experience About Anaesthesia

I am interested in rhinoplasty procedure.

I am interested in the rhinoplasty procedure for myself.

I am 24 years of age and have been massively conscious of my rather large nose for a number of years now. I am a British born Indian and feel my nose outcasts me from the rest of the British community regardless of colour or creed.

It has prevented me from having the confidence from doing things I have always wanted to do and I feel I am ready for this exciting but rather anxious time in my life. My anxiety arises from a number of things mostly what will I look like after the surgery would be completed? Would I be unrecognisable to my family and friends? Would my newly restructured nose conform to the natural aesthetics of my facial profile? Or would it look just plain odd?

My reservations regarding cosmetic surgery arise from having a procedure for bilateral gynecomastia when I was 19 years of age. Although the procedure rid me of the breast tissue the surgeons aesthetics around the nipple regions left much to be desired.

I felt perhaps I rushed into this operation when I was too young and hence didn't feel much rapport with the surgeon which may be one of the reasons why I was not overly satisfied with the results. My biggest fear with the rhinoplasty procedure is that I want a surgeon who I can fully trust and gain rapport not only prior to but also after the surgery, as I feel hesitant letting a (with all due respect) relative stranger perform such a aesthetically demanding procedure to be carried out on myself.

The other issue is that from your photographs I can't help but notice a lack of deviated septums in your cases. I, myself have a hooked nose with a deviated septum and was wondering whether or not you had dealt with such cases before although I do appreciate that every patient is different in their own, right?

I was hoping to get the surgery in the summer of 2012 after I graduate from university.

When preparing for rhinoplasty surgery I believe it is important to meet with more than one surgeon so that you can decide for yourself which person you're confident about and would like to entrust your treatment to.

As a workflow regarding consultation and planning, I prefer to use imaging and computer-based simulation either on photographs or 3-D images. It is therefore important to prepare for the consultation with points in that you would like to achieve, points that you are concerned about and aspects that you would like to avoid.

Changing the shape of the nose does not make a person unrecognisable, despite the relatively common perception of the contrary. To some extent imaging can allow you to appreciate better these characteristics, before you proceed with the actual treatment.
