Questions & Answers The Surgical Experience About Anaesthesia

If I am still unhappy with my nose after it has fully healed, do you offer a revision?

Your questions answered by our surgeon, Lucian Ion, FRCS(Plast)

Question

I am considering having my primary rhinoplasty procedure in the next 12 months and want to get it right first time round.

If for any reason I am still unhappy with my nose after it has fully healed, do you offer a revision in order to correct it or will it be considered as a separate procedure with an additional fee?

Answer

In relation to aesthetic surgery and rhinoplasty as one of the aspects of it, patient satisfaction is not necessarily related to what other people might consider a good result, and is a truly individual perception. For this reason, the notion of "satisfaction guaranteed" is not really applicable.

One of the reasons for the above is related to variations in the healing process, difficulties in controlling scar tissue buildup and contouring of elastic materials that continue to progress after the treatment during the healing stage.

In addition, there are instances when relatively minor contour irregularities are meaningful a particular patient, and whilst others may consider them irrelevant, some of the patients find it very important to see adjustments carried out.

If you explore the image gallery showing before and after photographs, you will notice that the results are not truly perfect, despite all the efforts in this direction, but they still can make a beautiful contribution to the confidence and well-being of patients.

I do take the view that as far as my practice is concerned I would love to achieve a result that my patients enjoy and feel proud of in each and every case, and in practical terms if the outcome of the surgical intervention is substantially different from the design discussed I would typically offer a revision intervention.

More commonly though, fine adjustments to the result which indeed contribute to the patient's ability to enjoy it, will involve a fee related to the hospital and anaesthetic, but not an additional surgical fee.
