Questions & Answers The Surgical Experience About Anaesthesia

My skin is too thin to having my nose built up.

Your questions answered by our surgeon, Lucian Ion, FRCS(Plast)

Question

I recently had a consultation with a view to having my nose built up hopefully with rib cartilage. However I got told my skin was too thin and this would not work.

I have a long history of nasal damage as I used to have a drink problem. However I overcame that and decided I wanted my flat nose repairing. To be honest I was left devastated and feel I am at a loss what to do next.

I am a 52 year old male. Surely in the age of face transplants there must be something or someone that can help.

Answer

In essence, for comments on this type of problem a consultation is fundamental, as it provides details of the structural changes of the nose, quality of the nasal airway, general health and your expectations regarding changes.

The alternatives for adjustments to the shape of the nose include surgical and nonsurgical techniques, and it would be possible to discuss based on a computer simulation regarding the degree of change is expected from different approaches.
