Please can you help me? On Wed 6th Oct this year I had Vaser Liposuction on my inner thighs at Skin Medical in Manchester by Matthew Scott Watson MB ChB MPH.

Fluid gathered and has been drained twice and an enzyme was injected into it 2 weeks ago, but it has now become a solid 10cm by 4cm, 2cm hard, itchy, uncomfortable, protruding lump.

I have been advised by the clinic that massage is the only option. It is ruining my silhouette and they are being most unhelpful, but sympathetic. Please can you advise or at least reassure me that this will go away or what action to take?

I'm sorry to hear about your concerns. It seems that the problem was related to a seroma, which is an accumulation of clear fluid. I believe that the injection may have been steroid, which is one of the options for reducing the re-accumulation of fluid. Following this problem, the body tends to build more scar tissue, which can still distort the area, as it appears to have been the case for you.

The natural progression in a situation like this is for the scar tissue to become gradually softer, which unfortunately takes several months. Externally applied ultrasound and massage can help disperse some of the scar tissue, and the water that accumulates in the area as a result of inflammation. There may still be a small amount of fluid to aspirate, but more frequently at the stage that you describe it is just scar tissue buildup and oedema.

It is possible to speed up the process with some more steroid injections to the area. However, if this technique is used it is important to use relatively small dosage and 3 to 4 weeks minimum between treatments to reduce the risk of excessive volume reduction, which can create an uneven contour to the area.

Throughout this period, deep massage to the problem area will help squeeze away some of the water. You can also use the compression garment overnight for additional pressure.
