Question

I am looking into fat transfer to treat my rolling acne scars on my cheeks. I have had numerous treatments over the past couple of years to try and improve my scarring and whilst these have given me some results the improvements have been minimal.

As well as acne scarring I have hollowness under my outer eyes and flat cheeks. I have had one consultation so far and it has been suggested to me that by having fat transfer to my under eyes and also to my cheeks this would improve the look of my scars. I have had multiple subcisions and my scars are no longer tethered down. They virtually disappear when I stretch the skin out and they improve when I smile. The idea is that the fat would have a similar effect by stretching the skin out from underneath.

Could you tell me if you have experience in fat grafting for acne scarring or whether this is something you offer?

Answer

I have carried out in the past fat transfer for improvement also of the acne scarring. The main limitation of the treatment is the degree of tension that is required, which translates into the degree of volume augmentation necessary. Inevitably, one does not want to distort the face by adding excess volume just to improve the texture of the skin.

I would be happy to see you in consultation and evaluate how much volume enhancement would be acceptable in order to give you guidance whether this is likely to improve the skin texture and reduced the visibility of the acne scars.
